From Ölüdeniz & Fethiye
Ovacık → Faralya (the Butterfly Valley rim)
The signature day on the whole trail. From Ovacık (a short dolmuş from Ölüdeniz or Fethiye) the path climbs onto a high coastal balcony and runs above Butterfly Valley, with the turquoise sea hundreds of metres below and paragliders spiralling down from Babadağ. Finish in cliff-edge Faralya for lunch and a dolmuş back. Allow most of a day, start early in summer, carry 2 litres of water.
Faralya → Kabak beach
Shorter but steeper: descend from Faralya through pine and terraces to the gorgeous cove of Kabak, swim, and bus back. A great half-day if you want sea time at the end.
Make a full day of it: many visitors pair a morning walk with an afternoon tandem paraglide over Ölüdeniz, seeing from the air the coast they just walked.
From Kaş
Kaş → Liman Ağzı
An easy-going coastal out-and-back from the harbour town of Kaş to the swimming spots of Liman Ağzı, with sea views the whole way and a boat option back. Perfect for a relaxed half-day and a swim.
Üçağız → Kekova viewpoints
Walk a quiet stretch above the Kekova sound and look down on the sunken Lycian city beneath clear water. Combine with a kayak or boat trip for the best of both.
From Kalkan & Patara
Patara ruins → beach
The gentlest great day on the trail: wander the extensive ruins of ancient Patara — theatre, colonnaded street, lighthouse — then walk out onto Turkey's longest beach (18 km of sand). Flat, family-friendly, endlessly photogenic.
From Antalya, Çıralı & Olympos
Olympos → Çıralı → the Chimaera
Explore the romantic seaside ruins of Olympos scattered through the trees, stroll the beach to Çıralı, then climb after dark to the Chimaera (Yanartaş), where natural flames burn from the rock. An easy, magical day-and-evening out, reachable from Antalya.
What to bring on a day hike
Lighter than a thru-hike, but don't treat it like a beach walk — the terrain is rocky and the sun is fierce:
- Proper shoes with grip — not flip-flops. Ankles turn on this limestone.
- 2 litres of water minimum, more in summer; there are few reliable sources mid-walk.
- Sun protection — hat, SPF, sunglasses. Most of the path has no shade.
- Offline map on your phone. Even day sections have unmarked junctions — the Lycian Way app shows your live position with no signal. Set-up tips in the navigation guide.
- Cash for the dolmuş and a village lunch — see money & connectivity.
- Swimwear — most of these walks end at or near water.
Getting to the trailheads
The western day hikes are easy by dolmuş (shared minibus) from Fethiye, Ölüdeniz, Kalkan and Kaş; eastern walks run from Antalya and Çıralı. To skip the timetable-juggling, book a private transfer to drop you at the start and collect you at the end. Full transport detail is in getting there.
Prefer to go with a guide?
A local guide turns a day walk into a story — pointing out tombs, plants and history you'd stride past alone, and handling the logistics and any shepherd dogs. Browse guided day tours or message a licensed local guide directly, with no booking fee.
Want more than a day?
If the trail gets under your skin — it will — the natural next step is a multi-day section. See the best sections ranked and our 7-day beginner itinerary, then put it together with the 2026 planning guide.
